India is famous for becoming one of the oldest film industries in the world. In the early 1913 an Indian movie has got a public showing. The first filmmaker who ventured into the film industry and made it a great success was Dadasaheb Phalke. His film, named Rajah Harishandra had become successful due to exultant response of Indian people. Since that time, Indian film industry has been always growing.

Then Indian movie industry started formatting and it is still expanding and developing. In 1931, sound has been brought in the movie and started the format in Indian films making song and dance as a common feature of the movie plot. It also split the film industry into language borders: these being the Hindi zone in the north and the two other major language strings in the south along with current languages. That is why India could create an outstanding movie industry to cater its leading literate audience.

The golden age of Indian movie industry came in 1950′s where actors and beautiful actresses were the gods and goddesses together with directors making fabulous and powerful films. Though the film begins ruling not only industry but also the souls of Indian movie fans. In this time playback singing has been incorporated, making the singers popular for the next half century.

In these movies the topics of social matters, marriage problems and widows life, cast divergences has been represented. It is apparent why these films have found its fans very fast. There were also fascinating films on Indian history and legends made as well.

Films with a good-looking hero and beautiful heroine with interesting plot, musical and dance successions, of course including a evil doing bad guy that obstruct relationships of a sweet couple, adding piquancy and more action between them was a grand success. This became the main topic of many Indian films to be released. The next generation of film stars has obtained the role and stage of the senior legends. These new movie actors significantly altered the concept of Indian film industry, improving it with glamour and sensual elements. The big budgeted films were shot at international places to drive attention of the viewers and took the best-seller positions.

In the first years of the millennium, Indian films came into the markets and the expectations of ìBollywoodî audience altered greatly. Films that deal with the present affairs and those that were filled with avant-garde ideas have broken the common love story or story of love triangle that has been a popular story base. With media going to a new conceptual grade, advanced technology and expanding the scope, ìBollywoodî produced bigger number of movies with different plots, and became international biggest movie producing industry. Future success of Indian movie industry conditions on whether it can cater to the demands and needs of a new market without losing its originality.
