Could anyone tell me why when I copy VHS tapes to DVD then import them to my pc they have distortion borders?
Recently I purchased a VCR so that I could copy my old tapes to DVD with my set top DVD recorder then import them onto my pc’s hard drive and edit them with my video editing software as an alternative to purchaseing additional hardware (video card) for my pc. However, when I attempt to play them on my computer using Windows Media Player or import them to my pc they have distortion borders, -a distortion line at the bottom of the screen and a blacked out border on the right side.
The VHS tapes that I am copying to DVD are not pre-recorded, they are just tapes that I recorded old television programs on or home movies, so they are not copy protected.
To edit the video I am using ArcSoft Show Biz DVD2.
Any help or links you can offer will be great and will receive the best rating. Also, please only answer if you have had the same experience and have a resolution.
Thank you in advance!

There seems to be a general consensus that copying VHS to DVD is a hit or miss operation. Each brand of copy software, VHS tape, DVD disk, etc can affect the copy process. If you want to try a commercial copy software I’d recommend this:

You could also check some freeware hosting sites like majorgeeks.com, softpedia.com, tucows.com, threfreecountry.com, sourceforge.net for copying software.
