I was using a Samsung DVD-VR375 to transfer VHS tapes to DVD, but it burned up on me. I wasn’t completely surprised because the thing runs for two hours straight while burning a disk in "real time." I could purchase another unit, or a similar product, but I worry that anything that burns a two-hour DVD at 1x is going to be prone to the same problems.

What I would really like is a unit that would let me record from VHS directly to an external hard drive or SD card. Does such a product exist? I’m sure that somebody is going to say "Yes, it’s called a computer." but that is not what I am looking for. My PC is busy doing other things, and is not always available for recording video via USB or other means.

I still have about 80 VHS tapes to convert, for a total of 200+ hours worth of video, so I welcome any suggestions for any products that could aid in digitizing my old home videos.

Thanks in advance.
Edit:

Thanks qlink_aardvark. However, I can’t find anything in the product description for the ScreenPlay that suggests that it can record video from its A/V ports. If this feature is available, it is very under-advertized on both Iomega’s website and the Amazon product description. Can you point me to the source where you found out about the recording feature of the device?
